Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, stir in flour, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. Add shortening to the mixture.
  3. Mix well until combined.
  4. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and set aside.
  5. Add the beaten eggs and milk to the well.
  6. Mix until the batter is smooth and well incorporated.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet over medium heat.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
  9. Fry until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  10. Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
