- In a mixing bowl, stir in flour, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar.
- Add shortening to the mixture.
- Mix well until combined.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and set aside.
- Add the beaten eggs and milk to the well.
- Mix until the batter is smooth and well incorporated.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet over medium heat.
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
