Ingredients

  • 1 box brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. flour
  • 2 c. sour milk
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare sour milk by mixing 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar with milk to make 1 cup and let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven and grease a baking pan.
  3. Combine brown sugar and melted shortening in a bowl.
  4. Add eggs and mix well.
  5. Stir in 2 teaspoons of flour.
  6. Gradually add sour milk to the mixture.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour.
  8. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  9. Fold in chopped nuts.
  10. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  11. Bake for approximately 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
