Ingredients

  • 10 to 12 cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 (10 oz.) can tomato soup
  • 1 (10 oz.) can water
  • 1/2 medium onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine hamburger, uncooked rice, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Boil cabbage leaves in water for 5 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a pan, sauté sliced onion in vegetable oil until translucent.
  4. Add lemon juice, sugar, tomato soup, and water to the pan. Simmer the sauce.
  5. Take 1/10 of the hamburger mixture, roll it into a ball, and wrap a cabbage leaf around it.
  6. Repeat with remaining mixture and cabbage leaves.
  7. Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot with the open side down.
  8. Pour the onion and soup sauce over the cabbage rolls.
  9. Simmer on low heat for 3 hours until the cabbage is tender and flavors meld.
