Ingredients

  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 heaped tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sour milk or 1/2 cup sweet milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Bring oleo, water, and cocoa to a boil.
  2. Sift together flour, sugar, soda, and salt.
  3. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the cocoa mixture and stir well.
  4. Add beaten eggs, sour milk (or sweet milk with vinegar), and vanilla.
  5. Mix thoroughly until smooth.
  6. Pour into a 13 x 9 inch pan.
  7. Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes or until done.
  8. Frost the cake once cooled, if desired.
