Ingredients

  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp bacon fat
  • water
  • 2 small diced potatoes
  • 1 smoked ham hock
  • 1 diced small ham slice
  • 2 cans navy beans
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Arrange a grid over your open fire and position a soup pot over it.
  2. Saute chopped onion and chopped celery in bacon fat until soft.
  3. Cover with water and add diced potatoes.
  4. Cook until potatoes are soft.
  5. Add smoked ham hock and diced ham.
  6. When the ham hock is warmed through, add navy beans and more water if necessary.
  7. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Ladle into bowls and eat around the campfire.
