Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 package spice cake mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
  3. Add brown sugar to the melted butter, heat, and stir constantly until the mixture becomes thick and syrupy.
  4. Remove from heat and divide the syrup evenly into two 8-inch layer cake pans.
  5. Core and slice the apples.
  6. Arrange the apple slices attractively in the syrup in each cake pan.
  7. Prepare the spice cake mix according to package instructions.
  8. Pour the prepared batter over the apples and syrup in each pan.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before removing from pans and serving.
