Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cook together sugar, dates, and milk until mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water (236°).
  2. Remove from heat; set pan in a bowl of cold water and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add chopped nuts and butter.
  4. Beat until thick and entirely cold.
  5. Turn onto a board dusted thickly with powdered sugar and knead until it will mold well.
  6. Roll into a long cylinder, about 1-inch in diameter and let stand 24 hours.
  7. When wanted, cut into slices.
