Ingredients

  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup caramel chips
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup plus 2 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  1. Melt the unsweetened chocolate and caramel chips in a double boiler; cool slightly.
  2. Cream the butter until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy; blend in vanilla.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the caramel-chocolate mixture.
  6. Add flour alternately with milk, beating smooth after each addition.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into two 9-inch pans.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
