- Separate the egg yolks and set the whites aside.
- In a saucepan, beat the egg yolks; add sweet milk, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon flour.
- Stir the mixture until all ingredients are blended.
- Place the saucepan on low heat, preferably using a double boiler, and cook until the mixture thickens.
- Pour the caramel filling into the baked pie crust.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add 1 cup sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
- Spread or pipe the meringue over the caramel filling, sealing the edges.
- Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes or until the meringue is golden.
- Allow to cool before serving.
