Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, you can substitute the margarine with unsalted butter. If you're looking for a gluten-free option, use a pre-made gluten-free pie crust or make your own with crushed nuts. Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier blending. To prevent the coconut from burning, keep an eye on it while browning in the oven.

Serving Suggestions

Serve caramel pies chilled, garnished with extra whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel topping for an appealing presentation. They pair beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or fresh berries on the side. Consider serving them alongside other desserts like Christmas Sugarplums for a festive dessert spread.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover caramel pies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The pie can also be frozen; wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil to prevent freezer burn. To serve, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight before slicing. Slightly frozen slices are also delightful for a refreshing treat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of milk instead of Eagle Brand Milk?

While Eagle Brand Milk adds a unique sweetness, you can substitute it with sweetened condensed milk for a similar result. However, keep in mind that using regular milk would change the consistency and sweetness of the pie significantly.

Is there a way to make this recipe dairy-free?

To make a dairy-free version, use a dairy-free cream cheese alternative and coconut cream instead of Cool Whip. Check that the caramel topping is dairy-free as well, or make your own using coconut milk and sugar.

How can I make the crust for this pie?

You can use a store-bought pie crust or make one from scratch. A Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust is an excellent choice for added flavor. Simply crush graham crackers, mix with melted butter, and press into your pie plate before filling it with the layers.
