- Melt margarine in saucepan.
- Add onion and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in cereal and buttermilk.
- Let stand for 2 minutes or until the cereal softens and most of the liquid is soaked up. Beat in the egg.
