Ingredients

  • 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 c. chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the unsweetened chocolate with shortening.
  2. Remove from heat and add sugar, then eggs.
  3. Beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.
  4. Add flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in nuts and chocolate chips if desired.
  6. Pour batter into a greased baking pan and bake.
