Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped salted cashews or toasted almonds
  • 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, softened butter, vanilla, and egg yolks in a bowl.
  3. Stir in all-purpose flour and salt until well combined.
  4. Press the dough evenly into an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2-inch rectangular pan with floured hands.
  5. In a small bowl, beat the egg white and water until frothy.
  6. Brush the egg white mixture over the dough in the pan.
  7. Sprinkle chopped salted cashews or toasted almonds over the top and press them lightly into the dough.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes until golden.
  9. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  10. Cut into 3-inch squares, then cut each square diagonally in half to form triangles.
  11. Immediately remove the triangles from the pan and let them cool completely.
  12. Drizzle the cooled triangles with melted and cooled unsweetened chocolate.
  13. Let stand for about 2 hours or until the chocolate is set before serving.
