Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 2/3 c. Gold Medal flour
  • melted butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. caraway seed

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add cheese, shortening, sugar, salt, caraway seed, and 2 cups of the flour.
  3. Blend for 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.
  4. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
  5. Stir in remaining flour until smooth.
  6. Scrape batter from side of bowl. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 30 minutes.
