- In a large bowl, cream butter, confectioners sugar, and vanilla until light.
- Stir in flour and chopped nuts until well blended.
- Cover and chill for 30 minutes or until firm enough to handle.
- On a lightly floured surface, shape the dough into 1-inch thick slices.
- Turn slices cut side up and place a candied cherry in the center of each slice.
- With lightly floured hands, shape each slice into a ball, covering the cherry completely.
- Place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart, and chill for 15 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Remove from oven and let cool on racks.
