Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups sour cherries

Instructions

  1. Beat the flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, sugar, egg, and milk until smooth.
  2. Stir in well-drained sour cherries.
  3. Pour the batter into a 9-inch square pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Serve warm, covered with cherry sauce.
