Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 can pie cherries (about 2 cups), well drained and sprinkled with 1/2 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs.
  2. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk.
  3. Fold in flour-coated cherries.
  4. Bake in an 8 x 12-inch sheet pan or 8-inch tube pan at 350°F for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Frost lightly with creamy white frosting.
