- Grease a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- In a mixing bowl, thoroughly stir together the flour, soda and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy.
- Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to creamed mixture.
- Beat just until blended after each addition.
- Fold in nuts and cherries. Turn batter into prepared pan.
- Bake for 55 to 60 minutes.
- Remove from pan; cool on a wire rack.
