Tips & Substitutions

For extra flavor, consider adding garlic or fresh herbs like basil and oregano when cooking the shallots. If you want to lighten the dish, substitute half of the heavy cream with low-fat milk or use a plant-based cream. Ensure the chicken is cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F. For a quick side, serve with thin noodles or a fresh green salad.

Serving Suggestions

This dish pairs beautifully with thin noodles or a side of garlic bread to soak up the delicious tomato cream sauce. A fresh arugula salad with a light vinaigrette complements the richness of the chicken. For a more substantial meal, serve with roasted vegetables or consider browsing more Italian recipes for ideas.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water or broth to prevent drying out. Alternatively, you can microwave it, covered, in short intervals until heated through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh tomatoes instead of canned?

Yes, you can use fresh tomatoes! You'll need about 2 pounds of ripe tomatoes. Blanch them in boiling water for a minute, then peel and chop. This will enhance the flavor, but ensure to adjust cooking time as fresh tomatoes may require a bit longer to break down.

What can I substitute for sweet vermouth?

If you don't have sweet vermouth, you can use white wine with a teaspoon of sugar or a splash of apple cider vinegar mixed with water. These alternatives will maintain a similar flavor profile, enhancing the sauce without overpowering the dish.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the chicken and sauce in advance, then store them separately in the fridge. Reheat gently before serving. This makes it a great option for meal prep or entertaining, allowing you to enjoy more time with guests.
