Ingredients

  • 3 lb. frying chicken, cut up
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 (11 oz.) can sauerkraut
  • 1 medium onion, quartered and cut into strips

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the chicken pieces.
  2. In a 10-inch skillet, heat the butter and add the chicken to brown on both sides.
  3. Remove the chicken and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Arrange the chicken in a heavy 4-quart casserole or Dutch oven.
  5. Remove all but 2 tablespoons of fat from the skillet.
  6. Mix in the sauerkraut, onion strips, and apple slices.
  7. Place the mixture on top of the chicken.
  8. Cover tightly and bake in a 325°F oven for about 1 hour until the chicken is tender.
