Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier filling, consider adding a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of shredded cheese. If you don't have self-rising flour, you can use all-purpose flour and add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder. You can also substitute the chicken for turkey or use leftover rotisserie chicken for a quicker prep.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the chicken pot pie hot, garnished with fresh parsley for a pop of color. This dish pairs beautifully with a simple side salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal. You might also enjoy it alongside warm, buttery biscuits or a slice of cornbread.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place individual portions in the microwave or cover the entire dish with foil and warm in the oven at 350°F until heated through, about 20-30 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this chicken pot pie ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the filling and crust separately, then assemble and bake it when you're ready to serve. Alternatively, you can bake it and reheat it later. Just be aware that the crust may lose some of its crispness upon reheating.

What can I use instead of cream of mushroom soup?

If you want a different flavor or need a substitute, you can use cream of chicken soup or make your own by combining equal parts heavy cream and chicken broth with sautéed mushrooms for added texture and flavor.

Is there a vegetarian version of this recipe?

Yes! You can substitute the chicken with a mix of hearty vegetables like mushrooms, zucchini, and potatoes. Use vegetable broth and a plant-based cream soup for a delicious vegetarian pot pie that still offers great flavor and texture.
