Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier texture, consider adding a dollop of sour cream to the sauce mixture. If you prefer a spicier kick, adjust the amount of Tabasco according to your taste or substitute with a different hot sauce. Feel free to use leftover rotisserie chicken for a quicker preparation. For a healthier twist, you can replace the cream soups with a homemade white sauce or Greek yogurt.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Chicken Senora with a side of Mexican rice or a fresh green salad to balance the richness of the dish. You can also pair it with tortilla chips and guacamole for an added crunch. For an extra touch, a dollop of sour cream on top complements the flavors beautifully, similar to our Favorite Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, place the casserole in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 20-25 minutes, or until heated through. You can also microwave individual portions for a quicker option, covering them to retain moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Chicken Senora ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble Chicken Senora a day in advance and refrigerate it until you're ready to bake. Just cover the dish tightly with foil to prevent drying out. When you're ready to bake, you may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

What can I use instead of Jack cheese?

If you can't find Jack cheese, Monterey Jack or even cheddar cheese would work well in this recipe. Both will provide a good melt and flavor. For a different taste, consider using pepper jack for a spicier version.

Is there a vegetarian option for this recipe?

Yes, you can easily make a vegetarian version by substituting the chicken with cooked beans or sautéed vegetables like bell peppers and zucchini. Replace the cream soups with a vegetarian alternative or a homemade white sauce for a delicious meatless option.
