Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 7 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 2 cups flour, sifted
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 7 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl with a wooden spoon, mix sugar, oil, egg yolks, cold water, and vanilla until well combined.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter, then fold in the nuts.
  5. Pour the batter into an ungreased chiffon or tube pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Invert the pan and cool completely before removing the cake.
