Chipper Brownie

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. chopped dates (8 oz.)
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. shortening or margarine (8 oz.)
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. broken walnuts
  • 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Cover dates with a cup of boiling water and cool.
  2. Cream the butter, sugar and eggs.
  3. Add dry ingredients, then dates and water.
  4. Spread in 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly roll pan and cover with nuts and chocolate chips.
  5. Bake at 350° for about 25 to 30 minutes.
