Ingredients

  • 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate morsels, divided
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup ground toasted almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt over hot (not boiling) water, 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels; stir until smooth.
  3. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine sugar and softened butter; beat until creamy.
  4. Beat in the melted chocolate, egg yolks, vanilla, and salt.
  5. Gradually add flour and milk; beat well.
  6. Stir in ground toasted almonds.
  7. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  8. Gently fold egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
  9. Pour batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool before serving.
