- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt over hot (not boiling) water, 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels; stir until smooth.
- Set aside. In a large bowl, combine sugar and softened butter; beat until creamy.
- Beat in the melted chocolate, egg yolks, vanilla, and salt.
- Gradually add flour and milk; beat well.
- Stir in ground toasted almonds.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
- Pour batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
