Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup Ghirardelli cocoa
  • 1/3 cup salad oil
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites until frothy.
  2. Gradually beat in 1/2 cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Sift dry ingredients with 1 cup sugar.
  4. Make a well in the dry mixture and add salad oil and half of the milk.
  5. Beat until well blended.
  6. Add remaining milk and egg yolks to the batter.
  7. Beat until smooth.
  8. Fold in the meringue gently.
