Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/3 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 1/2 c. scalded milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 5 to 6 c. flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Pour milk over sugar, salt, and shortening; cool to lukewarm.
  3. Beat in half of the flour and beaten eggs.
  4. Stir in yeast, raisins, and rolled oats.
  5. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
  6. Turn out on a lightly floured board and knead until satiny, about 10 minutes.
  7. Shape dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl.
  8. Cover and let rise until double in size, about 1 hour.
  9. Divide the dough into 2 parts.
  10. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
