Ingredients

  • 3 cans mandarin oranges
  • 3 cans grapefruit sections
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 avocados

Instructions

  1. Combine drained mandarin oranges and grapefruit sections in a bowl.
  2. Make a syrup by mixing sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan.
  3. Bring the syrup to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Add 1/2 cup lemon juice to the syrup and let it cool.
  5. Pour the cooled syrup over the citrus mixture and marinate overnight.
  6. Just before serving, add sliced avocados to the fruit mixture.
  7. Serve drained or undrained on lettuce or in cups as desired.
