- Combine drained mandarin oranges and grapefruit sections in a bowl.
- Make a syrup by mixing sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan.
- Bring the syrup to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
- Add 1/2 cup lemon juice to the syrup and let it cool.
- Pour the cooled syrup over the citrus mixture and marinate overnight.
- Just before serving, add sliced avocados to the fruit mixture.
- Serve drained or undrained on lettuce or in cups as desired.
