- In one-half cup warm water, mix 1 teaspoon sugar with yeast. Let sit until yeast rises.
- Remove coconut meat from shell; rinse and grate.
- Add 2 cups warm water to pulp; mix and squeeze out milk.
- Repeat with 1 1/2 cups warm water.
- Discard pulp.
