Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 4 cups plain flour
  • pinch of baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 or more tablespoons sweet milk
  • sprinkle of salt

Instructions

  1. Sift sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Work the mixture into soft butter and sweet milk until combined.
  3. Make into a ball shape.
  4. Put the dough into a Ziploc bag and beat with a mallet 200 strokes.
  5. Remove from the bag and divide into 4 balls.
  6. Roll each ball between wax paper until very thin.
  7. Cut the rolled dough into strips.
  8. Bake at 325°F (163°C) until no browning occurs, about 10 minutes.
  9. While still warm, cut into bite-sized pieces.
  10. Pack in an airtight box for storage.
  11. Save 2 or 3 long strips for the pastor to use in the service.
