Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 3 packages active dry yeast
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 9 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk.
  2. Add sugar, margarine, salt, and cinnamon to the milk and mix well.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm.
  4. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and combine with the milk mixture.
  5. Add eggs and egg yolk; mix thoroughly.
  6. Gradually add some of the flour, then incorporate the raisins, followed by the remaining flour.
  7. Knead the bread dough on a floured surface until smooth and non-sticky.
  8. Add extra flour a little at a time if needed.
  9. Place the dough in a greased pan and cover with a towel.
  10. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size.
  11. Remove the dough from the pan and divide into loaves.
  12. Place the loaves in well-greased loaf pans.
  13. Cover and let rise again until doubled or just rising above the sides of the pans.
  14. Brush the tops of the loaves with beaten egg white.
  15. Bake until golden brown.
