Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour, sifted once
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

  2. Do not stir until the water is added.
  3. Add the boiling water and mix well.
  4. Beat for 3 minutes.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F for approximately 30 to 45 minutes until done.
  7. Cake is done when a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
