Ingredients

  • 1 package of yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sugar (reserved from total)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup scalded milk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a small bowl.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, orange rind, and 1/4 cup sugar.
  3. Cut in butter using a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat eggs and mix with cooled, scalded milk and dissolved yeast.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and combine lightly.
  6. Cover the dough tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Divide the dough in half on a floured surface.
  8. Roll each piece into an 18 x 12 inch rectangle.
  9. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar mixed with cinnamon.
  10. Roll up each rectangle tightly from the wide end.
  11. Cut each roll into 1-inch slices.
  12. Place slices cut side up on a greased baking sheet and flatten slightly with your palm.
  13. Bake at 400°F for about 12 minutes.
  14. Prepare a glaze with orange juice and powdered sugar and pour over warm rolls.
