Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups corn meal
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups sour milk or buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons shortening

Instructions

  2. Combine egg, sour milk or buttermilk, and shortening; add to the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir lightly until just combined.
  4. Pour batter into a greased 8 x 8-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 425°F for 25 minutes.
