Cornbread-Sausage Stuffing With Apples

Ingredients
- 2 cups apple cider or apple juice
- 2.5 cups finely chopped yellow onions ⓘ
- 3 tart apples ⓘ
- 1 pound ground turkey ⓘ
- 3 cups coarsely crumbled cornbread ⓘ
- 3 cups coarsely crumbled whole wheat bread ⓘ
- 3 cups coarsely crumbled white bread ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme ⓘ
- 3 teaspoons dried sage
- salt and freshly ground pepper to taste ⓘ
Instructions
- Saute chopped onions in 1 cup apple cider; cook partially covered until tender and lightly colored, about 25 minutes. Transfer onions and cider to a large mixing bowl.
- Cook apple chunks in 1 cup apple cider on high heat, stirring until lightly colored but not mushy.
- Transfer apples and half of the apple cider to the mixing bowl.
- Crumble ground turkey into a skillet with the remaining apple cider.
- Stir in 2 teaspoons of sage and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until cooked through.
- Add the cooked onions, apples, crumbled cornbread, whole wheat bread, white bread, dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and pepper to the mixing bowl.
- Gently combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- Allow to cool completely before stuffing the bird or refrigerate if not used promptly.
