- Peel onion; set in the same pan as the meat and roast until fairly tender.
- Cut meat and onion into small pieces.
- Boil potatoes and turnip; dice.
- Mix the diced potatoes and turnip with the cooked meat and onion.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Roll out pastry fairly thin, about 1/4 inch.
- Cut the pastry into rounds the size of a saucer.
- Put meat mixture in the center of each pastry round.
- Bring two opposite sides of the pastry together at the top and flute the edges to seal.
- Brush the pasties with beaten egg.
- Bake in a hot 425°F oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
