  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mace
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 1/2 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • Basic pastry dough (for a 9-inch pie)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine cranberries and apple cider; cook and stir until cranberries pop (about 5 to 8 minutes).
  2. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and mace; stir into the hot cranberries.
  3. Cook quickly, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens; remove from heat.
  4. Stir in sliced apples and set aside to cool.

  7. Dot the filling with butter.
  8. Roll out the remaining pastry and cover the pie, sealing the edges.

  12. Cool on a wire rack and optionally top with a fluffy brandy topper before serving.
