Crandall Bread is a cheesy, buttery baked bread with onions, poppy seeds, and optional bacon, perfect for sharing at gatherings or as a savory snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 loaves French bread
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • bacon, fried (as desired)
  • 4 tsp. poppy seed
  • paprika
  • 1 lb. sliced Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Slice the French bread almost all the way through the crust.
  2. Place a slice of Swiss cheese between each slice of bread.
  3. Melt butter with diced onion and poppy seed.
  4. Pour the melted butter mixture over the bread, which is wrapped loosely in foil.
  5. Sprinkle with paprika on top.
  6. Heat in the oven at 325°F for 20 to 25 minutes until the cheese melts. Optionally, top with crumbled bacon before baking.
