Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup instant nonfat dry milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 slices bread (1/2-inch thick)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup seedless raisins

Instructions

  1. Make a custard mixture by turning the instant nonfat dry milk into a 1 1/2-quart bowl, adding sugar, salt, eggs, and nutmeg, and beating lightly.
  2. Add water and vanilla; stir.
  3. Toast the bread on both sides, then spread with butter and cut into 1-inch cubes. Arrange in a buttered baking dish holding about 6 cups.
  4. Sprinkle the sugar, cinnamon, and raisins over the toast.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the toast in the baking dish.
  6. Heat the oven to 350°F and bake the pudding on the center rack for 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the edge comes out clean.
