Sweet and tangy candied yams with citrus and warm spices, perfect as a comforting side dish for holiday dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 large can yams
  • 1 fresh lemon
  • 1 fresh orange
  • 1/4 lb butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 tablespoons pureed coconut
  • 1 dash salt

Instructions

  1. Place butter in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add 1/4 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon of orange juice.
  3. Add brown sugar, mace, allspice, pureed coconut, and a dash of salt, then stir well until smooth.
  4. Slice the yams and place them in a baking pan.
  5. Pour the mixture over the yams and let sit for 3 minutes.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F until bubbling and brown on top, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
