Instructions
- Put soda and salt on dates.
- Cover with boiling water.
- Add shortening.
- Let stand until cold.
- Add sugar and egg.
- Add flour gradually.
- Add vanilla and nuts.
- Bake in loaf pan for 1 hour at 350°.
