Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup quick rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup All-Bran
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 3 1/2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, oats, All-Bran, salt, molasses, and sugar together in a large bowl.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the mixture and stir well. Let it cool until lukewarm.
  3. Sprinkle yeast over the lukewarm mixture and allow it to set until tiny beads appear, about 10 minutes.
  4. Add 3 1/2 cups sifted flour and mix well to form a dough.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  6. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into pans.
  8. Let the dough rise in the pans for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 45 minutes until golden brown and loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
