Date Walnut Crisp

Ingredients

  • 1 c. fresh dates
  • 1 c. walnuts or pecans
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda

Instructions

  1. Put dates; cut in small pieces.
  2. Chop nuts.
  3. Cream sugars and shortening.
  4. Add flavorings.
  5. Beat in eggs; add dates and nuts. Add dry ingredients.
  6. Makes a stiff dough.
  7. Shape in balls.
  8. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Flatten slightly.
  10. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
  11. Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
