Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. melted shortening
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs and sugar; mix well.
  2. Add shortening.
  3. Add dates and nuts.
  4. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Spread in a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven at 325° for 35 minutes.
  6. Cool.
  7. Cut into bars.
  8. Roll in powdered sugar.
