Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, melted
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups ice water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Cream together the sugar and butter until smooth.
  2. Add eggs and beat at high speed for 5 minutes.
  3. Mix in the melted semi-sweet chocolate.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and ice water to the creamed mixture, ending with the ice water.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into two greased and floured 9-inch pans.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
