- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Stir in remaining ingredients, except flour.
- Add 4 1/4 cups of the flour, one cup at a time, stirring with wooden spoon after each addition, until soft dough forms.
- Sprinkle work surface with 2 tablespoons of the remaining flour.
- Turn dough out onto floured surface.
- Knead until dough is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
