Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 to 5 lb. chicken, cut up
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed

Instructions

  1. Shake chicken pieces in flour, salt, and pepper to coat evenly.
  2. Place the chicken skin side down on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  3. Dot the chicken with shortening and bake in a 400°F oven for 30 minutes.
  4. Turn the chicken pieces over and baste with a mixture of melted butter, water, and dill weed.
  5. Bake for another 30 minutes, basting 2 or 3 times during this period.
  6. Turn off the oven and keep the chicken inside for an additional 40 minutes to crisp the skin.
