Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces or butterscotch chips
  • 1 tsp. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts or rainbow sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla; mix until thoroughly blended.
  2. Shape the dough into 1-inch thick logs; cut into 1/2-inch slices.
  3. Roll each slice into 2-inch fingers between palms or on a board.
  4. Bake on an ungreased sheet at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes; then cool.
  5. Melt semi-sweet chocolate or butterscotch chips with shortening over hot (not boiling) water; remove from heat.
  6. Dip the cooled cookies into the melted chocolate or butterscotch; roll in chopped nuts or rainbow sprinkles.
  7. Place dipped cookies on waxed paper and chill until the chocolate is firm, about 1 hour.
