Ingredients

  • 9 slices white bread
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 13 oz can evaporated milk
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Break bread into small pieces and place in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1 1/4 cups sugar, evaporated milk, milk, vanilla, egg yolks, and melted butter to the bread.
  3. Mix well until combined.
  4. Pour the mixture into a 10 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and prepare meringue by beating egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
  7. Cover the pudding with the meringue.
  8. Rebake for 3 to 4 minutes until the meringue is golden.
