- Combine self-rising flour with a glob of Crisco using a fork to mix.
- Pour in buttermilk until the dough is sticky but manageable by hand.
- Put a handful of flour on a clean surface.
- Knead the dough lightly 6 or 7 times.
- Pat out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut out biscuits with a floured cutter.
- Place biscuits close together for soft sides or 1 inch apart for crusty sides.
- Bake at 450°F for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
